Well, after yesterday i have all the footage i need to get on with the magpies animation which is due in by the 4th of March (in a week!) so this project is on the back burner for a while untill joy and sorrow are out of the way. A lot has happened progress wise with this brief in the meantime though, so heres a big update. These are the final models (or very close to final) of Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles. Tails is a work in progress at the minute.

update on joy and sorrow
here's an update ive been waiting for. finally i have all the footage i need to animate with, and im really happy with all the scenes.
Heres a quick render of a few frames of the beginning of the animation. im busy animating sorrow into it right now, and im really happy with the result. the shadows on the birds are pretty weak, but im sure i can try out other lighting methods after ive animated them.

Security cameras
Here is my camera so far, the moving eye pupil gives it some character and it was a lot easier to create than i thought, anyhow, ill be rigging it with joints with a simple hand/elbow'shoulder connection to the drainpipe behind it.
Advised by my tutor I will be editing this camera to act more like a character with added lids for blinking.

Time plan for week starting Feb 7th
WEEK PLAN FEB 7th
here is my time plan for the week starting Feb 7th:
Reflection on last week's progress:
I feel that the last week went quite slowly, however I have got the hand of Ableton so the tune should be done soon. The filming was not done as scheduled because of the rain unfortunately, but hopefully I will have done it today (Friday)
SEGA Live Brief progress
Heeeeeeeeres Sonic!
been modeling him the past few days as I'm waiting for Ableton to export, and waiting for a clear day to film all my scenes!
anyway here is the model so far:
the colours are all off and the belly dot, and arms are missing their colours. but the model is pretty much complete now!
heres a screenshot showing off the hands, because they are the parts I'm most proud of!:
Time plan for week starting Jan 31st
Week starting:
JANUARY 31st
JANUARY 31st
This is the format of my time plan. all hand drawn because its easier for me to tick off things, and highlight parts for changes along the way.
Tests of Joy in scenes
Here is a test of a dark room with a camera flash effect on Joy. I really like the drop shadow effect on him here.
Here is a mirror test, however I was not able to achieve the correct reflective properties on the mirror, but again the drop shadow has worked for me.
Here is a scene of the outdoors, amongst some other birds just for fun. again, the shadows here work, although they aren't very strong because of the sky lighting.

Blog update with a production progress plan
This is a chart I can tick off during production to see how the project is coming along, making sure I'm on track with my more detailed time plan (see next post)
With this table, i can easily tick off the parts which are done and keep an eye on the overall progress of my animation considering the time i have left.
